Counselling for Overwhelmed Mothers
Online Australia-Wide and in Port Macquarie, NSW
What can counselling help with?
You don’t need to be in crisis to seek counselling. Sometimes, you simply know that things don’t feel quite right, or that you’ve lost touch with yourself along the way. Common experiences among the women I work with include:
feeling overwhelmed by the mental and emotional load
overthinking and difficulty making decisions
irritability, anger and mum guilt
feeling disconnected from yourself
struggling to identify what you need or want
changes in identity through motherhood
difficulty setting boundaries
relationship or parenting challenges
feeling stuck, flat or like you've lost your spark
navigating transitions or changes in your life
wanting to understand yourself more deeply
My approach is collaborative, relational and non-pathologising. I won't tell you what you should do or give you a formula for being a better mother. Instead, I'll help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself so you can make choices that feel more aligned with who you are and the life you want to create.
As a therapist, I work predominantly from a person-centred, trauma-informed perspective, creating a warm, non-judgemental space where you can slow down, explore what’s going on beneath the surface, and feel more connected to yourself.
I draw on psychodynamic thinking to help make sense of how your past experiences may be shaping the way you think, feel and relate in the present. I also support you to connect with emotions that may have been pushed aside or held in, rather than continuing to carry them on your own.
Alongside this, I integrate approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Narrative Therapy, drawing on what feels most helpful for you and your particular circumstances.
FAQS
How much do counselling sessions cost?
Sessions are $180 per 60-minute appointment.
Do you provide rebates?
Counsellors in Australia are not eligible for Medicare rebates. However, this also means that you do need to have a Mental Health Care Plan (or diagnosis) before seeking support.
How frequently should I attend counselling?
I recommend weekly counselling where possible, but I can work with you to explore what will work best. The first session is for you to get a sense of me and the way I work. After that, I recommend booking five sessions, and we will review from there.
How do I book a session?
You can book directly via my calendar below. Alternatively, if you’d like to arrange a short chat or ask any questions before booking, please feel free to email me at lauren.poole@outlook.com
